Wiltwyck Golf Club in Ulster County 9th hole

Ulster County has a wealth of great courses that can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities, and feature friendly staffs and affordable greens fees.

“We have 12 public and daily-fee golf courses that are always kept in tremendous shape,” says Rick Remsnyder, Ulster County Tourism Director.

An exciting addition this year to Ulster County golf is Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, a longtime private club that is now open for public play at affordable rates. The 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and is widely recognized as a significant test of championship golf. Over the years, Wiltwyck has played host to a number of prominent local and state golf events in both professional and amateur categories. In 2004, the club hosted the New York State Amateur championship, and many times has hosted the Men’s and Women’s Ulster County Championships.

“Having Wiltwyck open for public play really elevates the quality of golf courses
available in Ulster County,” Remsnyder said.

“Ulster is a great place to play and stay because of the great variety of golf courses and the outstanding accommodations all over the county. The Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz is an award-winning National Historic Landmark Resort that sits high atop a mountain about five minutes from downtown New Paltz. It features an award-winning spa, a pristine lake, miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, boating, rock climbing, tennis and of course, a picturesque Scottish-style golf course located just outside the gates of the historic hotel.”

He added, “Many people come to Ulster and love to stay at local B&Bs as a base for their golf ventures. For those who want more traditional accommodations, Kingston has plenty of fine hotels, including the Hampton Inn, the Kingston Courtyard by Marriott, and the Best Western Plus.”

Remsnyder added, “In Saugerties, Lazy Swan Golf and Country Club Village continues to draw rave reviews for its interesting 18-hole layout, and many golfers like eating at the golf course’s elegant Raw Seafood Bistro. It features some of the tastiest seafood dishes and exotic drinks in the region. They also can stay at the lavish Diamond Mills Hotel and Tavern just 10 minutes from Lazy Swan.”
