Garden State Marketplace brings in local flavors and specialty items from some of New York and New Jersey’s most popular restaurants
The Northern Trust tournament, which features the top 125 players in the FedExCup standings, will return to The Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., on August 21-26 for the first time since 2014, will feature a collection of new food options that will be available at an open-to-the-public fan venue called the Garden State Marketplace at this year’s kick-off Playoffs event.
The Northern Trust is the first of four events in the FedExCup Playoffs, the culmination of the season-long competition that is the centerpiece of the PGA TOUR Season. Many of the world’s top players have won the tournament including Adam Scott, Jason Day, Matt Kuchar and 2017 champion Dustin Johnson, who won the event for the second time in a thrilling playoff over Jordan Spieth. Since the tournament’s inception in 1967, it has generated more than $46.2 million for New York/New Jersey Metropolitan-area charities.
The Northern Trust prides itself in offering fans a food experience that captures the best flavors the New York and New Jersey Metropolitan areas have to offer.
The Garden State Marketplace is the primary gathering area open to all ticket holders along the 17th fairway and will feature a collection of signature food offerings from notable restaurants. Fan favorites Fuku and Luke’s Lobster will be returning, and newcomers Shake Shack and Bergen County favorite Sanducci’s Trattoria will be making their debuts at this year’s event.
“We want to celebrate New Jersey and New York’s love affair with food and are excited to bring some of the area’s best food to our fans,” said Julie Tyson, PGA TOUR Senior Vice President, Championship Management – New York and Executive Director of The Northern Trust. “It doesn’t get any better than great golf and great food with great friends.”
After a successful debut in 2017, Fuku makes its return to The Northern Trust. Established in 2015 as a fried chicken sandwich joint by Momofuku, Fuku has since grown to serve a variety of chicken and seasonal offerings in its New York and Miami locations. The restaurant’s Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich, Fuku Fingers and Fries will be featured in the Garden State Marketplace.
Luke’s Lobster will be bringing its extraordinary seafood directly from fishermen to The Northern Trust for the third time in tournament history. Along with its classic menu of New England seaside fare, Luke’s will be serving the “Double Eagle” lobster roll as an exclusive menu item at the tournament.
Also making its first appearance at The Northern Trust this year is global, modern day “roadside” burger stand Shake Shack. Founded by Danny Meyer in 2004 and known for its 100 percent all-natural Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, spun-fresh frozen custard and crinkle cut fries, among others, Shake Shack has garnered widespread appeal for being a fun and lively community gathering place. Since the original Shack opened in 2004 in New York City’s Madison Square Park, the company has expanded to more than 170 locations in 20 U.S. States and the District of Columbia, and more than 60 international locations including London, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo, Moscow, Seoul and more.
Pizza and Italian food lovers can also rejoice, as New Jersey and Bergen County favorite, Sanducci’s Trattoria, will make its debut at the tournament, serving up its gourmet pizzas, most notably these signature pies, creatively named after some of the world’s top golfers—Mickelson’s Margherita Pizza, Bubba’s Broccoli Rabe, Fowler’s Fried Peppers and Onions, Jordan Spieth’s Jersey Special and Dustin Johnson’s Honey Bacon.
In addition, William Hill Estate—the Official Wine of the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Champions and Web.com Tour—will be bringing Napa Valley to New Jersey, as the winery will have a presence within the Garden State Marketplace via its “Wine & Dine Presented By William Hill Estate Winery.”
