Established in 1902, Pequabuck Golf Course in Bristol is a demanding, par-69 course that has a pleasing mix of two par-fives, 11 par-fours and five par-threes. The layout is included in Golfing Magazine’s Course Play Stimulus Program for 2019.
Here, you will be called upon to use every club in your bag and strategy plays a vital role in success as you navigate this well-manicured layout that has the distinction recently of being voted on Golf Advisor as the “13th Most Improved Golf Course in the United States”.
While on the short side at just over 6,015 yards from the tips, Pequabuck is no pushover. It starts with a relaxing par-four that measures around 300 yards and gets you off and on your way with a chance to make birdie.
But your joy may short-lived in you don’t get your game focused again in a hurry as you approach the second hole, a par-four that plays a 435 yards from the tips.
The eighth hole is the final of three par-threes on the front side. It plays almost 190 yards from the back markers and the green is slightly elevated, which means you may want to hit a hybrid or lofted wood for your tee shot.
The 10th hole is a par-three that plays almost 200 yards from the tips and is challenging and a pretty a hole as you will find anywhere. The first shot is from an elevated tee and must be true to find a large green and stay away from water on both sides of the putting surface.
The 11th hole is a beast, paying 410 yards with water guarding the entire left side to the green. If you aren’t careful, your approach shot will roll into the wet stuff even on a strike that appears destined for the left side of the putting surface.
