Santee, South Carolina Lake Marion, 1st Hole

Of course, we are talking about getting around the Town of Santee, South Carolina.  Of course, you might need to be able to hit it about a mile to get from one course to the other but not much further than that.

Looking for a golf getaway where off the course there is no such thing as a long drive, then Santee, South Carolina is the place you are looking for.

Groceries, bars, restaurants, the largest freshwater lake in South Carolina are all within that mile.  Yes even 3 golf courses are going to be within that mile of where you are staying.  The town boasts condos and villas right on the course or choose from over a dozen hotels and motels on the towns main drag.

So that means that when you are done with playing golf you can kick back at one of the local establishments and take advantage of the happy hour cocktails specials with the option of walking.  Not even a short drive required.

There is a reason why over 100,000 golfers annually visit Santee and it is the golf.  Three courses right in Town, Santee National, Lake Marion and Santee Cooper Country Club, all within a mile of each other and from any accommodations within Town.  There are another 5 courses within 20 minutes of town and up to 14 within a 45-minute drive.

Armando’s has certainly caught the attention of visitors to the area and with their 2 for 1 happy hour drinks and giant margaritas, its flavourgazmic menu selections, some of the yummiest nacho chips and selection of salsas, it more than anyone could ask for.  It’s a nice addition to the stable of fine restaurants that Santee has had the fortune to have.  Captains Quarters is great with its selection of steak and seafood (grouper is a favorite here!). Clarks Inn and Restaurant is the oldest business in Town and was singled out by Southern Living as one of the best places for a Pit Stop on I-95.  A martini in the English Style pub is generally my first stop at Clarks then on to the restaurant where the decision is always the Rib Eye steak or Fried Chicken which is as good as you will find anywhere in the south.  That would be after my Blue Cheese Cranberry Salad – yum yum.

For the wino in you……. a special treat Suzanne Reinhard, the former owner of the Santee Fine Wine Shoppe, has re-emerged with a fine wine boutique as part of Wilbur’s Restaurant & Lounge.  Tucked away in the back part of the restaurant and club is a private function room lined with a selection of wines to enjoy as part of a fine dining experience.  Wilbur’s full menu is available.
