The course at the historic Wyndhurst Manor & Club (formerly Cranwell Resort, Spa and Golf Club), located in Lenox, Ma., is over 90 years old and was designed by two of the most noted architects of the early 20th century, Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek.
The classic layout rolls easily over the hills surrounding the resort and through mature woodlands of the area. The track features tree-lined fairways and naturally contoured greens that have been carefully preserved and can make for some tricky putts if you aren’t on the proper side of the putting surface.

The first three holes are near a small clubhouse. The tee box on the third hole, a little 152-yarder that has a huge pine tree guarding the left side of the putting surface, is right by the resort’s roadway, so you may have to hold your swing until cars have passed.
Although short the eighth hole is one of the best on the course. You tee off right next to the resort’s hotel and can cut the distance to the green on the 347-yard par-four dramatically if you take your drive over tall trees that hug the left side. It’s all downhill to a small green that is frustratingly easy to miss if you don’t concentrate on the pitch shot.
The course really starts to bit beginning at the ninth, a long par-four that plays to an elevated green.
