The Links at Union Vale in Lagrangeville, N.Y. introduced “GolfBoards” last year and Rob Caeners, General Manager of the club, says they have become very popular with golfers.
“We introduced it last summer, and it’s been so popular that we just added another eight to our fleet. People just seem to love them. GolfBoard is as intuitive to operate as it is fun to ride. GolfBoarding changes the golfing experience, without changing the spirit and traditions of the game.”

Golf Boards
The GolfBoard has its roots in surfing and snowboarding. Built specifically for golf from the ground up, the GolfBoard is a four-wheel, gear-driven, posi-traction golf transport vehicle. The user is always in full control of both the speed and direction of the board. An integrated thumb throttle controls the speed of the GolfBoard, while the use controls the direction through body movement.
“Members of all ages are enjoying them and they’re building in popularity,” said Caeners. “All it takes is a few minutes of training the first time before you head out and by the time you putt on the first hole, you will fully have the hang of using it. Because the GolfBoards are so popular it’s best to reserve one ahead.”
But have no fear, The Links at Union Vale still has golf carts, and as a matter of fact, the club now has a brand-new fleet of state-of-the-art golf carts with comfortable bucket seats, USB ports and more, said Caeners. “ So, whether you’re walking, riding or surfing the earth for your next round of golf, we’ve got you covered.”
Caeners reported business at the club as good, even though the weather has proved challenging. “We have golfers traveling on average up to 90 minutes to come and play. Most of them are coming from nearby Connecticut, Westchester and New York City.”
What makes the Links at Union Vale such a great course to play? “The Links is a real “links” style golf course, so it offers all that you’d expect, including blind shots and pot bunkers, and a bit more,” said Caeners. “Our 18-hole, championship public course, designed by architects Stephen Kay and Doug Smith, lets the shape of the land–with its swells and troughs–influence the shape of the holes. The fact that is there aren’t many courses like it in the region. Between the challenging course and the quality of service, golfing at The Links offers golf in a whole new light.” The result is a challenging course with five sets of tees that stretch from 5,198 yards to nearly 7000 yards from the tips.
Said Caeners, “It’s a fantastic course–in great shape, the greens are fast and well maintained. We work hard to make sure that golfers have a pleasant experience. We have golf rangers out there, so the rounds go quick, we have cart kids greeting golfers when they arrive to help with their bags, and we have an excellent pub–The Harp & Eagle.”
Caeners concluded by saying, “The Links is a wonderful course and if you’ve never played here before you need to come and experience the feeling and challenges of links-style golf. The course is hard, but most say when they’re done it was fun.”
