The best way to get more distance from your golf shot is to generate more club head speed. It’s simple, really: The faster the clubhead travels, the farther the ball will fly and the more distance you will see as a result. And, the best way to get more clubhead speed is to not just swing harder but also faster. It must be remembered that swinging harder requires tension in the muscles and the biggest enemy of a good golf swing is tension.
I have developed four points that will increase clubhead speed to give you more distance on your drives. Here are the steps I want you to take as we seek more distance:
1. Using a long tee, tee the ball up as high as it will go.
2. When taking your stance, move your back foot away from the target about six inches to widen the stance.
3. Do not let the clubhead touch the ground at address.
4. Now, swing the club fast and hold your finish.
The aim of this drill and four points I have described is to widen the swing arc, or width, of your swing.
This will allow the clubhead more “travel time”, which should increase clubhead speed and result in greater distance on your drives.
