A Fabulous Membership Offer at Harkers Hollow Golf Club

The golf club with a most interesting name has a long legacy of providing golfers and their families a recreational haven, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Harkers Hollow Golf Club in Phillipsburg, N.J. was founded in 1929, several years after Robert White, a famed Scottish architect, walked the rolling hills of Scotts Mountain envisioning what he would build and would become the course and club. White was also the architect for other notable clubs such as Manasquan River Golf Club and many more. He was also the founder of The Golf Course Architect Association, and served as the first president of the United States Professional Golf Association of America when it was founded in 1916 and served until 1920.

Many changes have been made to Harkers Hollow over the years, but the club has been steadfast in its commitment to keeping the course as close as possible to the original design set forth by White. Forward tees have been added to make the course more playable for all golfers. In the past decade stone walls lining the property have been refurbished, and a barn built in 1820 was brought back to life and is in use today.

For the non-golfer or after your round on a hot summer day, Harkers has a beautiful pool complex that is available for everyone to enjoy. Access to the pool comes with the platinum membership program, as a standalone pool membership and on a daily fee basis.

Carved through tall hardwoods, several of the holes on the course play straightaway but accuracy still plays a key factor during a round. The course is unique in that it is designed on a hillside and the terrain itself presents many challenges. Lotpacong Creek makes its way through the property and comes into play on seven holes, and well-placed bunkers force you to be strategic with club selection.

“There are many new and exciting things happening at Harkers Hollow Golf Club this season,” said Joe Manley, General Manager. “We are in the midst of an incredible membership campaign that is creating quite the buzz in the area. In mid-April we opened our all new restaurant, Uniontown Bar and Grill. The restaurant will be open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner.”

The Club has hired a new Executive Chef, John Wolf, who brings over 30 years of restaurant experience and “an excitement that is contagious,” said Manley. “We are also building a customer service-centered team for all areas of the facility. We will be constantly looking for great people to join our team.”

As for what makes Harkers Hollow a great club to be a member of and play golf at, Manley offered, “The challenging greens complexes have always been one of the best parts about Harkers Hollow. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere is the perfect choice when looking to play your next round with your friends or booking your charity golf event. The 90 years of history, memories and friendships are what so many people remember about Harkers Hollow. We have been challenged to revitalize the once great gem and bring it back to a facility that can be enjoyed by many for years to come.”

Manley believes the toughest hole on the course is its fourth, a straight-away par-five that “seems to go on forever.” He added, “A strong drive will put you in position for a long second shot where avoiding the fairway bunkers is key. The approach to a long narrow green that slopes from back to front can’t be missed long, because it will leave you a downhill chip or long putt that will surely add to the challenge.”

Harkers Hollow draws many members the Harmony and Phillipsburg area, but individuals from as far away as Stroudsburg, Pa. and western Northampton County have joined in the fun.

“It is a family-friendly club,” said Manley. “We welcome golfers of all ages and abilities to learn and grow at Harkers. For the non-golfer, we offer a pool membership to enjoy those hot summer afternoons. For a limited time we are offering our 3 Year Anniversary Membership, where you can join for  $49 per year plus a $10 per year administrative fee bringing the three year total to $177 plus tax. That’s unlimited greens fees seven days a week (weekends and holidays after 11).”
