Sixth Hole at The Renaissance Club

The Renaissance Club is an 18-hole championship golf course located in Haverhill, Massachusetts that is impeccably maintained to deliver perfect course conditions week-in and week-out. But the “expected” ends there.

Every hole at Renaissance, which is managed by Southworth, offers up a series of strategic challenges that will test the best and is extremely playable for all level of golfers. How you score will depend on your skill, your strategy, your creativity–and your tolerance for risk. The Renaissance course is renowned for its classic design features, straight from golf’s “Golden Age of Architecture”. It’s also well known for being a ton of fun to play.

The layout is a Brian Silva Signature Course. It’s a strategic layout that will challenge the most accomplished golfers, yet be thoroughly enjoyable for players of all skill levels. The club’s managers pride themselves on maintaining unparalleled course conditioning and golfer-friendliness. Renaissance is located in the picturesque Merrimack Valley, just minutes from I-495.

Perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of Renaissance, the practice areas were designed to emulate actual playing situations and conditions you’ll encounter on the course.

Short Game Practice Area

Designed to emulate the green, approach, and bunker conditions players will encounter on the course, the Short Game Area will be an invaluable practice area. From here, members and guests can hone shots from 60 yards in, one of the most important skills of the game.

Adjacent to the Golf Shop, members will find the Practice Fairway featuring expansive natural teeing ground, an all-season 1.5 acre turf teeing area and multiple green complexes strategically placed at various lengths from 100 to 260 yards.

Adjacent to the first tee is one of two practice greens. This is the ideal spot from which to hit a few last putts while waiting for the first tee to clear. The second of the two practice greens is located next to the Golf Shop and Practice Fairway and provides a convenient setting for sharpening one’s chipping and putting skills.

A golf simulator room is available for a fun afternoon or more serious game improvement endeavors. You can analyze shot shapes, compare club performance, perform gap fitting and analysis, and measure many other metrics. Driving Range mode provides a perfect visualization of every shot. You can also play 28 famous courses.

As far as the course itself both the 5th and the 15th holes are considered the signature holes. The 5th’s tee box is located at the highest point on the course and offers breathtaking views of the course and the surrounding valley. The par-five plays 558 yards that is reachable in two for the really long hitters. An expansive waste bunker guards the right side of the fairway.

The 15th hole is an impressive par-three, plays a long 248 yards from the back tee box. Two larger bunkers guard the green down the right side while strategically placed bunkers and long fescue guard the left. Par here is challenging but rewarding to those who can navigate the hole correctly.

Punchbowl green at the short par 4 Tenth Hole

One of my favorite holes on the course in the 10th. It is the one risk/reward hole the layout offers. A well struck tee shot will either leave you with a short iron into a punch bowl green, leaving you a birdie opportunity or, if lucky enough, a putt for an eagle. It is considered Silva’s favorite hole on the course.

After your round a new “19th hole” restaurant and bar named “The Boot” is opening this fall, drawing inspiration from the great pubs of Scotland and Ireland, and paying homage to the rich shoe manufacturing history of Haverhill. The Boot is also equipped with two full swing golf simulators. Additionally, significant investments are being made on the golf course, highlighting its Golden Age inspiration, walkability and architectural significance.
