Use AI…Just Not the AI You Were Thinking Of

These days, everyone is asking AI how to do everything better. Better workouts. Better diets. Better relationships. Better sleep. And if you’re a golfer, you’ve probably asked it how to fix your swing. Today, we’re using AI differently. Today, AI stands for AFTER IMPACT. If you master this one position…YOUR ARM STRUCTURE AT WAIST HIGH AFTER IMPACT…you’ll build the foundation for longer, straighter, more powerful golf shots.

This isn’t just another swing thought. It’s one of the defining checkpoints that separates accomplished ball strikers from everyone else. Years ago, I was studying Gary Player’s unique backswing when he smiled and said, “Young lady…you don’t hit the ball with your backswing!” Point taken. The golf ball doesn’t care how pretty your backswing looks. It responds to what your club and body are doing AT and THROUGH impact. You barely survive impact, and then you think you’re done. The left arm collapses into a “chicken wing” and the right elbow folds because you’re pulling both arms in towards your body. The result? You sabotage the very forces that produce speed, compression, and power.

Study the photographs below so you have a picture of your new structure…whether it’s Laura Davies, Bryson DeChambeau, Lexie or any elite player! Despite their distinctive styles, they all share one unmistakable characteristic. At waist high after impact, both arms are fully extended. Want to look like them? Time to focus on extension in your RIGHT ARM.

Extension is what keeps the club accelerating through the golf ball instead of losing force. Here’s how to train it. Start with your short irons. Make swings that END when your club and your right arm are parallel to the ground after impact. Waist high. No full finish. No mushy follow-through. Your entire objective is to drive the right arm into full extension, parallel to the ground.

Feel as though you’re thrusting the club down the target line. Do not swing fast. If you do, you’ll race right past the position you’re trying to own. As your right arm learns to extend correctly, your left arm naturally extends with it. Suddenly your entire follow through swing has structure, width, and power! Drill it with every club in your bag until this position becomes automatic. You’re rewiring your motion so your body can reproduce it under pressure without conscious thought.

Have someone film you with your phone. Do your arms match the pictures? As this movement becomes natural, you’ll want to feel your right arm continue driving through the shot, pushing against your chest as it moves to the left of the target, causing full rotation …STILL extended! Say goodbye to bent, alligator arms. The biggest breakthrough in your golf game will come from focusing on this one position instead of having one hundred swing thoughts!
