Spirit Golf Management to Make Changes at Oxford Valley Golf Course
If you want to play a fun nine-hole “executive courses” in eastern Pennsylvania you need to look no further than Oxford Valley Golf Course in Fairless Hills.
“Oxford Valley Golf Course is ideally set up as a family-friendly facility to learn and play the game of golf,” said Kevin Beirne, PGA Vice President of Golf Operations at Spirit Golf Management, “with Spirit Golf Management’s dedication to growing the game of golf. Oxford Valley Golf Course will feature many of the ideals that have made our other managed facilities so successful.”
Spirit Golf Management is partnering with the Bucks County government and is in the early stages of taking over management at Oxford Valley Golf Course, while making some immediate changes and improvements to the layout and its operations.
Beirne said management will incorporate leagues, events, and programs to welcome players of all levels to play at Oxford Valley Golf Course, and with its par-31 and 2,100-yard layout everyone will be able to enjoy it whether at lunch, after school or after work.
“We are in the process of doing some tree work to eliminate some of the least healthy trees on the property, as well as, a full bunker renovation,” explained Beirne. “We will clean out and renovate each greenside bunker on the property, which will make for great playing conditions and targets when hitting approach shots into the greens. In addition to these projects, we are completing aerification and adding seed and topdressing throughout the property to strengthen and enhance the turf. Our plan is to dramatically improve the playing conditions right away.”
The club’s staff will be comprised of current Spirit Golf Management members that have “vast experience” running and operating the tee sheet, outings and events, teaching and clinic administration, and the management of the pro shop. In addition to the day to day staff, both Mike Attara, PGA owner and President of Spirit Golf Management, and Beirne will oversee operations at Oxford Valley Golf Course.
“We are actively preparing the golf course for play right now and opened the golf course on weekends starting April 10, with regular play beginning sometime in May. We will have a `grand reopening’ is being scheduled for May to re-introduce residents and players to Oxford Valley Golf Course.”
Although on the short side as befits an executive layout, Oxford Valley Golf Course nonetheless has a few tough holes that will test everyone’s shot making ability. Holes 6, 7, and 8 provide a great test after the early holes get you warmed up. Small “target” greens make approach shots challenging and demand good iron play throughout your round.
Membership rates, extremely reasonable, will remain the same as in 2020, Beirne said. For instance, a family (two adults and up to three children) pays $150 for a membership and $7 per nine holes greens fees. An individual membership is $75 with a $7.50 greens fee, while a senor single pays just $50 with a $7 greens fee. Non-member play is welcome Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
