Ron Jaworski’s Running Deer Golf Club has once again been selected by the United States Golf Association (USGA) to play host to a U.S. Open Qualifier on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. A field of 66 amateurs and professionals will be vying to advance a sectional qualifier, the final stage before qualifying for the 127th U.S. Open, which will be held May 30-June 2, 2024, at Pinehurst (NC) Resort and Country Club.

Running Deer is one of 109 local qualifying sites in 44 states and Canada. Only two other New Jersey clubs were selected to be Open qualifying sites this year, Fairmount CC in Chatham, and Crestmont CC in West Orange. This marks the second time that Running Deer has been selected by the USGA as an Open qualifying site, the previous occasion being in 2017.

Several players with local ties will compete in the qualifier at Running Deer. The field includes players from all over the east coast from Florida to Connecticut and also includes entrants from Ohio, Michigan Kansas and Gambia (Africa). The format is 18 holes of stroke play. Amateurs must have a handicap index of 0.4 or better in order to gain entry into the qualifier.

“We are honored to have been selected by the USGA to host such a prestigious event leading up to the U.S. Open Championship,’ said Ron Jaworski, CEO of Ron Jaworski Golf. “We’re confident that the competitors will have a great experience here and will enjoy the challenge presented by Running Deer in their quest to qualify for the U.S. Open.”

Located in Pittsgrove Township, Salem County, Running Deer Golf Club is an 18-hole, semi-private golf course that opened in 2000. Besides the championship caliber golf course, Running Deer Golf Club is also a popular and highly acclaimed venue for weddings, banquets, and dining. The club’s Seven Tap-Tavern restaurant features exceptional pub style fare and is also home to holiday special events.
