Resurrected and wonderfully re-imagined from the old Mays Landing Golf and Country Club, the newly renovated and recently re-opened Mays XII is an absolute joy to play, and a totally unique, and improved, property for the Atlantic City area that’s ready to reclaim its historical, and rightful, place atop the famed Jersey Shore Community of golfing meccas.
Originally conceived, and constructed, in the early 1960s by former PGA of America President, Leo Fraser, long-time owner of nearby Atlantic City Country Club, Mays XII is a thoughtfully designed 12-hole golf course created for a more relaxed and accessible playing experience designed to appeal and accommodate all players of all skill levels.
Mays XII offers a unique 12-hole layout designed to deliver a relaxed yet engaging golf experience. Whether you’re playing a quick loop or taking your time on the greens, Mays XII is built to make each and every visit enjoyable and most memorable.
New owner Frank Ruocco, owner of nearby Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, along with several investors bought the old Mays Landing Golf and Country Club, shut down since the days of Covid, put some 8 Million into modernizing the clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant, now Lascala’s, while retaining much of the Frasers’ timeless design that was so popular and beloved among generations of Mays Landing and visiting golfers for so long.
A massive synthetic putting green with Putting Course, is chief among the exciting new additions and upgrades featured at Mays XII.
“The goal was to build a great new course for the public with the first-class amenities, service and feel of a private golf club,” said Mays XII’s PGA Director of Golf Nate Przestrelski. “The improvements that Frank (Ruocco) and our Superintendent Ron Montgomery have instituted are really incredible. People are going to be blown away.”
With six of the original holes destined for future residential development, Mays XII’s unique twelve-hole routing, the only one of its kind in the Region, fits its very own, and special, kind of niche that other area Nine Hole courses, some Executive Length or Par 3 Only, just don’t.
“The holes are the same as people will probably remember, only better,” said Przestrzelski. “ We’re not an Executive Course. There are just 12 holes now instead of 18. I think that makes us stand out from other courses in the area, and I think it’s a good thing.
“The condition of the course is vastly improved. The clubhouse and pro shop are both brand new. The new Lascala’s Restaurant is a great place to eat. The patio out back is a terrific area for entertaining and for weddings and large events, also.”
Sure to become one of the Shore’s best places to play once again, Mays XII Golf Course, while retaining, and embracing, its once glorious history, has its eye laser focused on the Present and a bright, and hopeful, and promising new Future.
If you’re looking for a challenging, historical, fun, and new golfing experience when visiting the Shore, don’t overlook Mays XII Golf Course. You will be very happy if you decide to tee it up there.
