Along the sun-drenched shores of West Maui, Kā‘anapali Golf Courses continues to offer one of Hawaii’s most memorable golf experiences. With sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, the dramatic backdrop of the West Maui Mountains and two distinctive 18-hole layouts, Kā‘anapali remains a favorite destination for golfers seeking a combination of championship golf and island hospitality.
Located in the heart of the Kā‘anapali Beach Resort, the property features the Royal Kā‘anapali Course and Kā‘anapali Kai Course, each offering a different challenge while showcasing the natural beauty that has made Maui a world-renowned vacation destination.
The Royal Kā‘anapali Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1962, is the property’s championship centerpiece. Stretching approximately 6,700 yards and playing to a par of 71, the layout combines generous fairways with undulating greens and strategic challenges that reward thoughtful shotmaking.

One hole that made a lasting impression on Arnold Palmer was the par-4 18th, a demanding 449-yard finishing hole that he reportedly considered among the finest and most challenging he had ever played. That’s considerable praise from a player who competed on many of the world’s greatest courses.
Royal Kā‘anapali also boasts an impressive tournament history. The course hosted the Champions Tour’s Kā‘anapali Classic for 14 years, along with events such as the LPGA Kemper Open and Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf. Legends including Jack Nicklaus, Palmer, Greg Norman, Fred Couples and Betsy King have competed on its fairways.

Complementing the Royal Course is Kā‘anapali Kai, a par-70 layout measuring approximately 6,400 yards. Extensively renovated in 2005, Kai features contoured fairways, strategically positioned bunkers and a layout that offers an enjoyable but engaging test for golfers of varying abilities. The course gained national exposure when it hosted Golf Channel’s Big Break Kā‘anapali in 2008.
Beyond the golf, Kā‘anapali’s appeal lies in its remarkable setting. The resort community stretches along approximately three miles of coastline, offering beachfront accommodations, restaurants, shopping and recreational activities. Few destinations make it quite so easy to combine a morning round of golf with an afternoon enjoying the beaches and waters of the Pacific.
The courses occupy approximately 300 acres of land with a rich Hawaiian history, including ties to the island’s royalty. That heritage, combined with decades of championship golf, gives Kā‘anapali a character that extends well beyond its spectacular scenery.
For golfers planning a late-fall or winter escape, Kā‘anapali offers the opportunity to trade colder temperatures for ocean breezes, palm-lined fairways and year-round golf.
Stay-and-play packages are offered through participating resort partners, providing visitors with opportunities to combine accommodations and golf.
