There are lots of changes taking place at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, N.J. this year.
There’s a new head professional, Chas Sarlund, PGA, formerly of Royce Brook Golf Club and Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club, and new teaching pros that will offer comprehensive instruction programs.
In addition, the club has a new Director of Food and Beverage, TJ Farrell, who will work with new Chef, Joel Newcombe, formerly of Cherry Valley Country Club, to deliver what promises to be sensational food and beverage offerings–from everyday grill items to special events.
“We have $1 million in improvements planned including new carts, equipment and clubhouse renovations,” said Matthew Galvin, President of Morningstar Golf and Hospitality, LLC. “Some improvements will be visible to customers–from the club’s parking lot to bathrooms to the golf course–and some will be behind the scenes in technology, systems and equipment.”
Galvin continued, “We are also making the club very family friendly. There is no additional charges to add a child or even a grandchild to membership. Children and grandchildren golf and ride for free daily after 3 p.m. with a paying adult or member. Even for our public golfing guests, children and grandchildren ride and golf for free after 3 p.m., seven days a week”
Galvin explained that the club is located near many businesses and offers a “Lunch Loop”, three to six holes, lunch, cart and the use of new TaylorMade rental clubs for $35, which can be fit into a busy day in under an hour on weekdays..
“The course is a hidden gem, with great holes that challenge you and will demand every club in your bag,” said Galvin. “However, it is user-friendly and you can make it around in under four hours, not the long rounds found at other public courses. The scenery is breathtaking, especially on the ridge that runs along our back nine, without houses or highways crowding you.”
Yes, Fox Hollow is simple, pure golf, no pretensions, with quick rounds, excellent greens and playing conditions, and is a superb value for both members and the public. “We draw from a wide region since we are so close to both I-78, U.S. 22, U.S. 206 and I-287 in central New Jersey,” said Galvin. “Our golfers come from all over central New Jersey and as close by as Staten Island, the Lehigh Valley, and Bergen and Mercer counties in New Jersey.”
For most of Fox Hollow’s 50-year history it was a private club that drew members from the immediate area. Offered Galvin, “However, in the last four years, the club has opened to the public and we are still spreading that word and drawing from a wider area. We offer memberships without initiation fees, bonds or assessments with tee times as long as 28 days in advance in addition to being open for public play.”
The members and public golfers who enjoy Fox Hollow have shared a variety of the holes they love, said Galvin. Both nine and 18 play over water and the 13th provides vistas of the Somerset Hills.
“Our par-threes are a challenge. The second hole borders the Lamington River and there is no bail out spot. The 12th is a 200-yard par-three, a challenge similar to number three on the Banks Course at Forsgate Country Club and similar, but longer than number 16 at Somerset Hills Country Club. We have holes that require finesse and some where you can rip it as hard as you can.”
Full and Corporate members at Fox Hollow can play either course at nearby Royce Brook Golf Club for a cart fee only up to 10 times per year. “That’s three courses for the price of one,” said Galvin..
